From KC to K-CITY: The story behind the city-labeling changes on Fenway Park's manual scoreboard - The Athletic

BOSTON — On Monday, Kansas City Royals pitcher Brad Keller was taking a typical stroll around Fenway Park when he spotted something weird. Wasn’t bad, it was just plain weird.

He had walked from the visitor’s dugout to the left-field grass to get a look at the Green Monster. He had scanned from the left, seeing the American League East standings and the advertisement, then he reached the manual scoreboard.

Above the Boston line read: “K-CITY.”

“What?” He thought. “I have literally never seen that.”

Keller was not alone. Teammate Mike Montgomery read the abbreviation Monday but didn’t think much of it. Why would he? The Royals had recently acquired him from the Chicago Cubs, and he had not yet played at Fenway Park with Kansas City. But others noticed and asked questions, too.
